Complex Bankruptcy and Business Litigation

Brandon J. Iskander represents creditors, bankruptcy trustees, debtors, businesses, fiduciaries, and other parties when bankruptcy creates consequential litigation or places valuable rights and assets in dispute. Drawing on experience across hundreds of bankruptcy matters, he brings a practical understanding of how the different participants in a bankruptcy case evaluate risk, develop litigation strategy, and pursue resolution.

Mr. Iskander handles the prosecution and defense of multimillion-dollar claims involving substantive consolidation, breach of fiduciary duty, fraudulent transfers, equitable subordination, and other insider-liability theories. He has successfully subordinated several multimillion-dollar secured claims under 11 U.S.C. section 510 and has prevailed in challenges to homestead exemptions under federal and state law. His recent work has also involved complex questions concerning property of the bankruptcy estate, trust-fund characterization, and the limits of bankruptcy avoidance powers.

His experience representing different constituencies allows him to anticipate competing arguments and understand how a bankruptcy dispute may affect a client’s broader business, financial, or litigation objectives.

• Estate-property and exemption disputes: Contested questions involving estate ownership, trust funds, homestead exemptions, and related state-law rights.
• Trustee and fiduciary representation: Counsel to bankruptcy trustees and other fiduciaries in contested and transactional matters.
• Reorganization and business matters: Subchapter V and Chapter 11 matters, creditor-side Chapter 13 representation, and business litigation.

Professional Leadership and Recognition

Mr. Iskander is President of the James T. King Bankruptcy Inn of Court for 2026-2027. He previously served as Chair of the Orange County Bar Association Commercial Law and Bankruptcy Section for 2025, as a member of the Insolvency Law Committee of the California Lawyers Association from 2022 through 2026, and as President of the Inland Empire Bankruptcy Forum in 2022. He also served as the Forum’s Program Chair in 2021 and moderated its Annual Survey of Consumer Bankruptcy Law from 2021 through 2026.

He has been selected to the Southern California Super Lawyers list for 2025-2027, following four consecutive selections to the Southern California Rising Stars list from 2021 through 2024. He is a member of the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Central District Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys Association, the Orange County Bar Association’s Commercial Law and Bankruptcy and Tax Law Sections, the San Diego Bankruptcy Forum, and the Orange County Lavender Bar Association.

Mr. Iskander regularly contributes to bankruptcy education through legal writing and speaking. His presentations have addressed developing issues in avoidance litigation, unauthorized bankruptcy filings, the effect of bankruptcy on contracts and settlements, ethics in the use of artificial intelligence, homestead exemptions, and California community-property law.

Background and Judicial Experience

Before joining Goe Forsythe & Hodges LLP, Mr. Iskander practiced for more than five years at a bankruptcy boutique. During law school, he served as one of former Representative Katie Porter’s founding legal assistants at the California Monitor Program, helping to enforce the National Mortgage Settlement of 2012. He also served as a research editor, lead article editor, and article editor for the UC Irvine Law Review and externed for the Honorable Catherine E. Bauer (Ret.) of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California.

After graduating from the University of California, Irvine School of Law and passing the California Bar Examination in 2014, Mr. Iskander clerked for the Honorable Robert A. Gordon (Ret.) of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Maryland. He earned his Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the University of California, Irvine.
